Donald Trump Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps by not pulling blows towards Megan Rapinoe and the United States women’s team after their “awakening” in Tokyo 2020.

The U.S. women were stunned in their opening Group G clash after suffering a devastating 3-0 defeat to Sweden in Tokyo.

Rapinoe, who replaced Tobin Heath in the second half, insisted he “accepts” the criticism.

However, the 36-year-old Reinger winger claimed that media criticism of women’s sports “still needs to heal.”

Trump Jr. took to Twitter and called Rapinoe because of his response to the backlash surrounding the U.S. team’s decision to kneel.

The 43-year-old, who was tipped to run for president in 2024, tweeted: “Hey Megan … maybe [sic] you!”

Rapinoe admitted that his team, which is one of the favorites to enter the 2020 Summer Olympics, “didn’t play well” against Sweden.

“It tells me that people watch games and understand the importance of games and understand different teams,” said US international (via Yahoo! Sports).

“I don’t mind that stuff. I think everything they said was right.

“We didn’t play well. Sweden got better with us.”

Trump’s father launched a spectacular rage against the US team after their defeat in Sweden and accused them of supporting “awake” politics.

Speaking at a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, the 75-year-old said: “Wokeism makes you lose, destroys your mind and destroys you as a person. You warped. You demented.

“The U.S. women’s soccer team is a very good example of what’s happening.

“Earlier this week they unexpectedly lost to Sweden, nothing, and the Americans were happy about it.”

The United States women bounced back from their opening defeat to beating New Zealand 6-1 before capturing a 0-0 draw against Australia.

Vlatko Andonovski’s side, who finished second behind Sweden in Group G, will face the Netherlands on July 30 in the quarter-finals in Yokohama.
