Atlanta, Georgia – The city of Atlanta is stepping up its COVID mitigation efforts in light of an increase in COVID-19 cases caused by the Delta variant and unvaccinated people.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms issued an executive order. As of today, July 28, all persons in a public place, including businesses and private establishments, must wear a face mask or cloth face covering over their nose and mouth when they are inside.

The mayor says his decree is in response to recent CDC guidelines.

“Public health experts overwhelmingly agree, and the data has proven, that wearing a face covering helps slow the spread of this deadly virus,” Mayor Bottoms said. “As COVID-19 rates rise, we must remain vigilant, wear a mask, follow CDC guidelines and other measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities. “
