Doctor says delta variant driving ‘completely’ Covid hack cases

Professional sports leagues are uniquely placed to track Covid-19 superstars as they continually test thousands of athletes, according to Dr.

Sica told CNBC that the highly transmissible delta variant “absolutely” drives most of the Covid penetrations he studied.

“Delta is driving this,” said Sekka, founder of the Sports Medicine Analytics Research Team, an organization that assists many professional sports leagues with injury data.

“We know that the delta variant has a higher viral load, is more contagious, is more contagious, and is driving cases in the community. There is a very high viral burden in the community.”

With Covid cases on the rise nationwide, new research shows that fully vaccinated people can transmit the virus as asymptomatic carriers. More than 5,900 Americans who were fully vaccinated or hospitalized have died of a breakthrough Covid infection as of July 19, according to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data. The site also notes that 1,821 of these cases were either “asymptomatic or unrelated to Covid-19”.

Sekka told “The News With Shepherd Smith” that vaccines work to prevent severe illness when it comes to Covid and the Delta variant, and that one of the main takeaways from sports is that vaccinated athletes return sooner than those who are not.

“The athletes who got Covid, despite being vaccinated, came back and performed well and were able to return and perform at a high level,” Sekka said.
