If you know better, do better.
For vintage fashion designer Shamani Hall, 34, the expression not only describes her current state of mind, but defines her personality and life purpose. Born in Alaska (his name is Inuit), raised outside Seattle, attended school in Los Angeles and New York at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) and FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), respectively, Hall cut his teeth in a fashion industry that work in Los Angeles. It was in LA where she found her own style and partnered with a friend to launch a brand in 2007 that attracted a set of LA celebrities, including influencers like the Kardashians. After 10 years, the brand ran its course, and a change of scenery was needed. He decided to start a new design company just as a friend asked him to help open a new store in Costa Rica, and Hall took the opportunity.
When I [in Costa Rica], I can have the space to go deeper and really think about what I want to do with my life and career, said Hall, who recently became a vegan and has committed to a more purposeful life through conscious consumerism. When it feels right, I’ll do it.
Hall returned to LA in 2020 just as COVID forced a statewide lockdown, which left him alone in his LA apartment working on his own brand. I was forced to focus only on my own thing, he said. I even started taking pictures of myself with the product; during COVID, you have to be resourceful. Her limited line of vintage clothing sold out online, but she felt trapped in LA and needed a change. San Clemente is just a panacea.
“My ex-boyfriend surfs the Trestles a lot, and we always love coming here,” he said. I’ve always had a great vibe here and knew one day I would end up in San Clemente.

<p>Craving for nature, peace, and a surf city vibe after spending three years in Costa Rica, Hall moved to San Clemente from LA in August 2020. Six months later, in May 2021, while driving through town, I passed a For Rent sign that called out to me, turning around. my car and called the number, he recalled. Four days later, he signed a lease on the location of the Camino de la Estrella.</p>
<p>On July 1, 2021, Hall opens Shop Shani, a consciously curated space of collectable and curated items to elevate your vibe. All women’s vintage clothing and accessories are environmentally conscious with sustainability in mind. I love classics, but I try to keep up with fashion and give them new life, she says. Most of his work sells for less than $100, and clothing ranges from blouses, dresses and jackets to shoes and belts and is available both in stores and online.</p>
<p>As this next phase in Halls’ life takes shape and he reflects on the lessons learned during the pandemic and the years leading up to it, he is content and comfortable with his path. I didn’t have a social life during the pandemic, so business gave me something to work on, he said. It’s great to be here and see it all come together.</p>
