Indians vs. White Sox – Game Summary – July 31, 2021

CHICAGO-White Sox rookie Seby Zavala hit the first three home games of his career, including a grand slam, but the Cleveland Indians gathered to win in Chicago on Saturday night 12-11.

Austin Hedges, Owen Miller and Amed Rosario are working to help Cleveland overcome a five-installment deficit.

Zavala became the first player in league history to hit the first three trips of his career in the same game, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The 27-year-old catcher played in the lead roles of his 18th game, which he was called from Triple-A Charlotte on July 6 to replace the injured Yasmani Grandal.

Zavala played this season in White Sox in 12 matches and won 4 matches in 28 matches in 13 matches. He played 1-12 of five matches with Chicago in 2019.

Brian Goodwin and Adam Engel also earned for the White Sox, who lead second-placed Indians in eight games at AL Central, although they won only three times in the last 10 games.

The Indians took nine runs in three consecutive matches to lead. Justin Garza (1-0) threw two goalless innings. Emmanuel Clase got five weirds from his 13th fight.

Goodwin made a good effort at breaking through on the right, but the home team’s left defense cleared the ball to a corner.

Kopech allowed five shifts per shift, the first time he has produced more than a run this season.

Each starter propeller gave three home runs. McKenzie gave up six runs in four innings in Cleveland, while Keuchel was marked for five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Craig Kimbrel achieved his perfect ninth first appearance at the White Sox when they acquired him from the Cubs by the trade deadline on Friday.

He has again met Tony La Rusa, who was in the Boston office when Kimbrel rose to the Red Sox in 2018.

The White Sox added Kimbrel, even though he already had an All-Star closer to Liam Hendriks. La Russa said they are used according to their availability.

Kimbrel, eight-time All-Star, got 0.49 ERA and 23 fights in 25 chances with the Cubs this season.

The game was paused for a moment at the bottom of the eighth as the debris fell to the right field. DeMarlo Hale, interim manager of the Indians, said the item was thrown towards the right field player Oscar Mercado. Straw said Mercado told him it was a bobblehead doll, and the White Sox award was second baseman Yon Moncada’s bobblehead.

I want this game to continue and not have breakdowns or downtime because it was such a good game, Hale said. (Security) took care of it right away and we moved on.

TRAINERS ROOM

White Sox: LF Eloy Jimnez (tightness of the groin) left the lineup during the third consecutive game. The spoon is expected back on Tuesday. The sling ousted Jimnez all season until he was returned from the injured list on Monday. OF Luis Robert (right hip bender) moves well, but a few at-bats short on his rehabilitation mission, La Russa said.

RHP Cal Quantrill (2-2, 3.66 ERA) is scheduled to start on Sunday in the final of the series against the White Sox, who had not yet announced a starter.
