Hopefully for Joshua v Fury against early 2022
Tyson Fury was given a shocking phone call by President Donald Trump last night, according to the boxing champion’s Instagram.
Fury, who is the world heavyweight champion, was at home celebrating his palm Leigh Wood who won the world title at Match Campo Boxing’s Fight Camp, when he received a surprise call from a friend Hughie Johnston and the former president.
Johnston, a staunch Trump supporter and former boxing champion, set up the call while at the dinner for Trump, and Fury seemed already pleased with the reception.
“Just get off the phone with Donald Trump,” Fury said in an Instagram story last night. “A nice surprise from my men Hughie Johnston.
“Thanks boys, enjoy your lunch guys.”
Trump, an avid fan of the fight, had previously invited Fury to the White House after he won his WBC heavyweight title from Deontay Wilder in their 2020 rematch.
But the onset of the coronavirus just a few weeks later has likely canceled any plans for an official visit.

“That was a great fight,” Trump told the media after the fight. “It was a great battle between two great warriors, really exciting.
“Maybe we’ll take them both to the White House, I don’t know, because that’s really good. In fact I think we’ll do that.”
Pope Francis also expressed interest in a meeting with the boxing star, but none of the events were able to take place after the February fight, which started lockdowns around the world in early March.
Fury won’t be the first fighter to attract the attention of the 45th President of the United States, who Trump has been friendly with UFC fighters Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal over the years.
After the President, Trump invited Covington to the White House in August 2018 after winning the provisional UFC welterweight worldwide championship.
And just over a year later, he attended a match between Masvidal, a staunch supporter of his, and Nate Diaz at Madison Square Garden.
Trump and UFC boss Dana White are best friends, and a number of fighters including former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje and legendary double champion Henry Cejudo were spotted at a Nevada rally during his campaign in 2020.
Recently, he was spotted in Conor McGregor’s trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in Las Vegas, posing for photos with celebrities like Jake Paul and Steve Deleonardis from YouTube group Nelk.
Meanwhile, Fury is back in the United Kingdom after a coronavirus outbreak in his camp caused his upcoming trilogy with Wilder to be postponed from July 24 to October 9.
The pair are set to finally end their duel in a third match at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last week, but after Fury and a number of teammates tested positive for covid, the match was moved.
A win over Wilder would perfectly set the Fury up for an undisputed title against winner Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk, taking place in London at Tottenham Hotspur stadium on September 25th.
