New table tennis tables will be coming to South Oxfordshire this summer as part of an initiative to help residents stay active and healthy.
South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse District Councils are working with the English Table Tennis Association, the councils Didcot Garden Town project team and Didcot Town Council to fund the tables.
Permanent tables will appear at St Edmunds Park, Ladygrove Park and Great Southern Park in the Southern and District Centers in Didcot. There are also tables in Kennington, Shrivenham, Chalgrove, Beckley and Stowood. There are also temporary tables in Benson, Faringdon and Lewknor.
The parishes, which now have permanent tables, had previously set up table tennis groups in their area. Places where the tables are semi-permanent will be evaluated for six months, and if they are shown to be popular, they will remain in these areas as well.
All tables except the tables at Didcot South and County Community Centers are available to residents free of charge. There is a small fee for the centers. Table tennis players must bring their own bats and balls.
Counselor Maggie Filipova-Rivers said, “My kids love this, as do I, although I may need to practice a little. I look forward to residents, young and old alike, keeping their rackets and balls active and having fun at the same time. ”
