Patriots Jonnu Smith learned to drive fighters in the churchyard: God forgives

When he gets the ball in his hands, Jonnu Smith is in danger of falling.

Before the Patriots played in Tennessee in 2019, Bill Belichick said Smith was probably the best in the league after the catch.

So how can Smith run so angrily with the ball in his hand? Is that something he learned? Or is it just natural?

It’s just the kind of thing I feel like I just developed as a kid and played football in the backyard with your sons, your friends, You know what I mean? Smith said after Friday night’s rehearsal at Gillette Stadium. Just playing in the churchyard and not getting, because if you are tackled, it means you have to hand over the ball. It was just something we played during the day.

Maybe that’s it, I don’t know. But all I know is that I run with passion. When I run with that football, I aim for the whole organization. You know it takes everything away. Maybe that’s where it comes from, I don’t know, but I’m definitely proud and passionate about football.

On Friday night, the Patriots organized a stadium training session for season pass holders. It was quite a walkthrough where players didn’t use pillows, but Smith was still excited about the energy of the stadium; this was the first time football had been played with Gillette fans since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

It’s an amazing atmosphere, Smith said. These fans are awesome. Just get out of here and just feel the mood of the game day, man, it has to wait. Here it is, Do you know what I mean? When you talk about NFL football, the New England Patriots, on Sunday in Foxborough, it’s something you grow as you dream. Being here, part of this team, I can say I am a big part of helping this team win, is really humiliating.
