Jurgen Klopp talks about Liverpool’s transfer plans and names 14 players in team tip

Jurgen Klopp has apparently hinted that Liverpool will not sign any other players until some leave the club.

The Reds have added Ibrahima Konate to their squad for the new season, bolstering a center back who was a problem with injuries last season.

Despite Konate’s addition, Liverpool are still linked with a host of potential new additions ahead of the August 31 deadline.

A replacement for Ginni Wijnaldum has been rumored in midfield, while there is also talk of a potential new striker.

However, with only a few days until the Premier League season kicks off, Liverpool still have just one deal done this summer.

In an interview with Norwegian TV 2, Klopp hinted that in order for more new faces to arrive, some of the current members of the squad may need to leave.

“It’s summer and the transfer window is open, then everyone expects some players to sign. We’ll see what happens,” Klopp said.

“Let’s go through the team. Do you want to buy a new defender? A new goalkeeper? We already have good players there.”

“In midfield we have players with a lot of experience, such as Thiago, Fabinho, Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita. In addition, we have exciting young boys in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.

“In attack we have Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi.

“I definitely forgot someone… If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money. We don’t have to do that, because the players are already here.

“You have to make changes from time to time, but then there has to be room to do that. We don’t want more players. If something happens in one place, then something can happen in another, but it doesn’t make sense to add more players. “.

Aside from the inclusion of Konate, Liverpool also extended the contracts of several key players in the squad.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho and Alison Becker have all put pen to paper with new terms in recent days.

The trio have joined Adrian, Caoimhin Kelleher and Harvey Elliott as players who have signed new deals so far this summer.

Liverpool will now continue to press ahead with new deals for Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane, although initial talks with captain Jordan Henderson have so far proven unproductive.

Speaking about new contracts, Klopp said keeping the best players at the club is a challenge.

“The transfer market was very interesting,” Klopp said. “We have tried to extend contracts with the key players at the club, which is something we are still trying to do.

“Some clubs have a different approach, which can be seen from the outside and is probably more exciting, but extending contracts with good players is a challenge in itself in today’s football.”
