Women’s golf announces a schedule for 2021-22

The University of Minnesota Women’s Golf Team begins its season at the ANNIKA Invitational, emphasizing the schedule announced by head coach 2021-22 Rhyll Brinsmead on Friday.

“I couldn’t be any more excited to announce our full fall and spring schedule when we return to full competition for the first time in two years,” Brinsmead said. “I’m also eager to lead this team as head coach for my first full year. This schedule will allow us to compete against the best of college golf every time we step on the course. This is essential so we can offer the best chance of competing in the post season in May.”

The season brings the best teams of college women’s golf to the Twin Cities, and the season begins Monday, Sept. 13 at 3M’s 3-day ANNIKA Invitational in Lake Elmo, Minn. Two weeks later, the Gophers leave for Vail, Colo. Golfweek Challenge (September 27-29).

Two other tournaments await Maroon and Gold in the fall. Oct. 16-18 Minnesota will participate in the Pat Bradley Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., Before leaving for Bowling Green, Ky.

“The fall season is highlighted at the ANNIKA Invitational in our backyard,” Brinsmead said. “This event is number one in the tournament every year due to its field strength, and we are honored to receive the invitation.”

After the New Year, the Gophers will return to the Big Ten Match Play in Innisbrook, Fla., Jan. 31 – Feb. 1. The team will stay in Florida for the UCF Challenge in Orlando next week (Feb. 6-8).

Three weeks later, Maroon and Gold cross against the country at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., 27-28. February.

As the calendar changes to March, Minnesota will compete in the Valspar Augusta Invitational (March 12-13) in Augusta, Ga. And Briar’s Creek Invitational (March 14-15) in Kiawah Island, SC

A trip to Indiana awaits the Gophers in April as they attend the Indiana Invitational (April 9-10) in Bloomington, Ind.

The 2022 Big Ten Championship will be held in Pittsburgh, Penn. April 22-24.

“The spring season schedule is deep and includes three new events for the Gophers, Big Ten Match Play, UCF Invite and Augusta Invitational,” Brinsmead said. “We will travel to six different states and see the top race in every event. Our goal is to make the NCAA’s after-season and this schedule will prepare us for this task!”
