Unicorns are becoming commonplace. But when CoinDCX joined the billion dollar club last week after raising $ 90 million in its Series C funding round led by Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, it made the news because it’s all about of India’s first crypto unicorn. It’s also a signal that investors are pretty excited about this form of asset, as intangible and illiquid as it may be. The latest round of cash injection has pushed the valuation of three-year-old start-ups to $ 1.1 billion.
We believe 2021 will be the year that India is a leader to lead the crypto revolution, post euphoric Sumit Gupta, CEO and co-founder of CoinDCX on LinkedIn.
Gupta and his companion, Neeraj Khandelwal, CTO and co-founder of CoinDCX, both alumni of IIT Bombay and 30 years old, are digital natives and evangelists of blockchain, AI and online marketplaces. Gupta has made no secret of its ambition to make cryptocurrency accessible to the common man. CoinDCX currently has 3.5 million users.
The duo plan to use the recently obtained funds to push their new CoinDCXGo app, a crypto investment platform that aims to bring 50 million Indians into the crypto space. From launching a #TryCrypto movement to a learning platform called DCXLearn that deals with crypto and blockchain disinformation, they are determined to make this asset a common currency.
