Axis NEA chief says corruption allegations are baseless

The sacked head of the National Electrification Administration (NEA), Edgardo Masongsong, insisted on Saturday that the corruption allegations against him were unfounded.

In a recorded briefing released on Saturday morning, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he had fired Masongsong, after the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) recommendation of impeachment.

Masongsong admitted, however, that he was dismissed from his post due to corruption allegations.

“These are allegations that I dealt with during the PACC investigation into these accusations, and the records will show that I have fully cooperated with the PACC – fully confident in the knowledge that these allegations are unfounded, and that if granted due process and the opportunity to defend myself, I can establish that I am innocent of any wrongdoing, ”Masongsong said.

“In fact, a review of the NEA Audit Commission (COA) reports will show that at the time of PACC’s allegations, there had been no COA findings indicating that there had been a waste of public funds nor a smell of corruption, ”he added.

Masongsong noted that during his tenure as head of the NEA, the agency twice received the highest COA audit rating, “proof of the agency’s efforts in favor of transparency of its financial operations ”.

Nonetheless, Masongsong said he had not yet received a formal notice urging him to step down as a NEA administrator.

“I am ready to hand my responsibilities over to whoever is designated as responsible for the NEA once instructed to do so -– to ensure that NEA services continue smoothly for the benefit of the cooperatives. electrical (CE) and consumers. The NEA is mandated to serve, ”he said.

“For almost two decades, I served the EC movement in various capacities; as Director General of the EC, organizer and representative at the Congress. My background speaks for itself, because it is one of the bases on which the president appointed me administrator of the NEA, ”he added.

Masongsong said he would always be grateful to the president for giving him the opportunity “to serve the industry I love and to thank my NEA family for their continued support.”

“Despite this recent turn of events, I will continue to serve the EC and MCO (member-consumer-owner) movement and our people to the best of my ability,” he said. —LBG, GMA News
