Minnesota GOP ‘in ruins’ after shocking scandal

But the running of politics won’t stop, DeJournett said. There are a ton of alphabet soup groups out there that are still doing the work to help the causes and the candidates Politics will not stop as the state party puts together its act.

DeJournett and other veteran party activists were there a decade ago when the Minnesota Republican Party faced a similar crisis after running out of huge debts and the party leadership collapsed. He saw a silver lining how quickly Carnahan resigned.

Before the party can begin to pick up the pieces, it will need to choose a new party chair, along with other leadership positions. State Senator Mark Koran, who unsuccessfully challenged Carnahan earlier this year for party leader, is a possible candidate. Other names have been floated: former state Rep. Kelly Fenton, former state Senate Minority Leader David Hann, lawyer and longtime GOP activist Harry Niska and Republican National Committeeman Max Rymer.

Outside the party, it remains unclear how the electorate will respond to the implementation of state parties. An early test will come next week, at the Minnesota State Fair.

Polunc, who can be seen at the state party booth there, said, It’s exciting to see what kind of response we get from the public on their walk, and we see what kind of feedback.

He added, It can be challenging at times.
