Afghanistan: PM says ‘this is the first phase’ of evacuating people

The former head of British forces in Afghanistan said the terrorist threat level in the UK must be raised to a severe level.

Colonel Richard Kemp warns of an imminent possibility of attacks on British soil by jihadists inspired by the fall of Kabul.

“This is a direct threat to our country,” warned Col. Kemp, who has advised the government on counter-terrorism.

The current national threat level is high and the next one is severe – which British spies say means an attack is “highly likely”.

The classification was determined by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Center, which works with MI5.

It was reduced from severe in February.

It is usually altered in connection with events closer to home than Kabul.

The threat level was last raised in November, with four people shot dead in Vienna, Austria, three killed in a knife attack in Nice, southern France, and a teacher killed in Paris.

Colonel Kemp told the Sunday Mirror: “Given the immediate growing threat from British jihadists inspired by events in Afghanistan and their motivations, the government should seriously consider raising the threat level in the UK and increasing the counter-terrorism assets available to the intelligence and police services.

Everywhere jihadists celebrate the Taliban’s victory. This will re-energize, encourage and motivate them to strike.

“Recruitment for their cause will be through the roof. The Taliban will allow al-Qaeda and the Islamic State to operate in the territories they control, and their numbers and morale will be boosted by the thousands of terrorists released from prisons by the Taliban.”

His warning follows dire warnings of the possibility of a new 9/11 event in the UK. Shared in the concerns of Colonel Kemp, the former head of MI5, Lord Evans, who warned that terrorists would be inspired by the “failure of Western power in Afghanistan”.

Lord Evans added: “This may create a certain amount of power in the broader networks that still exist in Britain and across the West. This means an increase in the threat over the coming months and years.”

An intelligence source added: “There is a lot of talk on jihadist websites, and Islamists view the fall of Kabul as an inspiring victory.”

Security is likely to be increased at key locations across the UK such as military bases, Parliament and government offices.

It is also understood that British and American special forces will establish secret bases in neighboring countries that will be used to target any terrorist bases in Afghanistan in the coming weeks and months. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemeni branch of the terrorist organization, on Friday hailed the fall of Afghanistan.

The fanatics said in frightening pride: “This victory and empowerment reveals to us that jihad and fighting represent the legitimate and realistic way to restore rights (and) expel invaders and occupiers.

As for the game of democracy and simple peaceful action, it is a deceptive mirage, a fleeting shadow, and a vicious circle that begins with zero and ends with it.

Kabul airport: terrified Afghans are crushed to death in disarray as they try to flee Taliban death squads ‘carry out house-to-house searches and kill enemies’

Defense leaders were shocked by how quickly the Afghan army could collapse in the wake of the withdrawal of US forces last month.

The Taliban funded their war against the Afghan National Army, as well as British and American forces, by taking advantage of Afghanistan’s position as the world’s largest exporter of opium.

Now there are fears that the money could also be used to fund other terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda, which has re-established a foothold in the country.

Cesar Goddes, head of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Kabul, said: “The Taliban relied on the Afghan opium trade as one of their main sources of income. More production brings medicines at a cheaper and more attractive price, thus making them more accessible on a larger scale.”

A confidential report leaked by NATO showed that the group is also getting money from mining, property and regional donors, whose names have not been disclosed.
