Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, nearly hit $ 50,000 on Saturday afternoon in a rebound that comes after several small declines in recent months.
Bitcoin hit $ 49,344.88 at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Bitcoin was trading at $ 48,417.87 at 5:21 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Bitcoin has had its ups and downs recently as new tax rules and laws have created barriers for miners.
Bitcoin hit a record high of $ 65,000 in mid-April, but fell to $ 30,000 in May and has remained in the $ 30,000 to $ 40,000 range since. On July 21, Bitcoin was priced at $ 32,523.91.
At its highest this weekend, it was up 77.4% from a year’s low of $ 27,734 on Jan.4.
Investing in crypto assets, or related investments and loans, usually involves taking very high risks with investor money. If consumers invest in these types of products, they should be prepared to lose all of their money, the Financial Conduct Authority said in January.
Even with its unpredictability, total crypto usage has grown by 881% in the past year, according to Chainalysis.
Billions of dollars are invested in cryptocurrency around the world. There is approximately $ 2.16 trillion invested in the market.
