A letter dated July 30, 2021, written by their lawyer, Banjo Ayenakin & Co Legal Practitioners & Notary Public to EFFC and made available to The PUNCH, said the retirees, who were teachers, included Mr. Anein Omoareabu, Mr. Ezekiel Akerele, Mr. Foluwaso Akerele and Mr. Samuel Olajide.

The letter was titled False Pretext, Criminal Conversion and Fraud.

He read in part, it is our brief that Professor Joseph Afuwape, FUTA VC, Mr. Julius Adesoba (Bursar of FUTA) and Professor Deji Ogunsemi (Chairman of the Board of Trustees of FUTA High School) falsely stated to our clients that our clients were registered with Arm Pension Managers Limited; and the NLPC pension fund administrators (PFA). Deductions were made on a monthly basis from our clients ‘salaries under the false pretext that they were paid into our clients’ PFA accounts, but the amounts were fraudulently converted by these people.

Accordingly, we invite you to use your good offices to investigate the veracity of our clients’ claim with a view to verifying it and prosecuting these suspects if necessary.

However, FUTA’s deputy director of corporate communications, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, said the case had nothing to do with Fuwape and Ogunsemi.

The case predates Professor Joseph Fuwape taking office as VC in 2017 and Professor Deji Ogunsemi as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of FUTA High School in 2019.

It is therefore presumptuous, malicious and malicious to accuse them falsely in the manner contained in the petition addressed to the EFCC by Olabanjo Ayenakin, acting on behalf of said teachers.

The case which has now been spuriously turned into a petition to the EFCC is before the National Labor Court in Akure, Ondo State.

It is relevant to note that the persons on whose behalf the petition was written applied to the National Labor Court and jointly sued their pension managers and FUTA through an action brought before the National Labor Court, Akure Judicial Pension, March 4, 2021.

In the lawsuit, the names of Professors Fuwape and Ogunsemi were not mentioned because they were not parties to the lawsuit. However, this fact was deliberately concealed from the petition written to the EFCC.

He argued that since the parties were already in the process of settling the matter and the matter was still pending in court, the action taken by the plaintiff was a disgrace of the judicial process.
