US Open 2021: Sweepstakes, results, viewing, streaming, live updates, results, TV channel

The tennis calendar will return to its tracks in 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted much of the 2020 season. The US Open has returned to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City and showcases the sport’s biggest stars.

The men’s field is so far without stars in a row. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will not participate in the US Open. Federer underwent knee surgery earlier this summer and hopes to return to the court in 2022. The Swiss tennis star participated in the Wimbledon tournament earlier this summer but suffered another knee injury in the Grand Slam. Meanwhile, Nadal has been treating a chronic leg injury and recently announced he will be sitting in late 2021.

US Open champion Dominic Thiem will also miss this year’s US Open as he deals with a wrist injury. Like Federer and Nadal, Thiem will be on the shelf in late 2021. Thiem suffered a wrist injury in Mallorca earlier this summer.

While the biggest stars in the sport sit outside, Novak Djokovic is participating in the US Open. Djokovic plans to overtake Federer and Nadal in history for the most Grand Slam championships. Djokovic, Federer and Nadal currently have 20 Grand Slam championships. Djokovic earned his 20th Grand Slam championship in July when he won Wimbledon. With the win, Djokovic also became the first male player to win a calendar year’s Grand Slam tournament with an Open Era win after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year.

On the women’s side, Serena Williams will not participate in the US Open due to a thigh injury. This is the same injury that made Williams miss the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In addition, Sofia Ken, the world’s fifth-best player, will miss the US Open due to a recent positive COVID-19 test. Ken had suffered a leg injury he suffered at Wimbledon earlier this summer.

Ashleigh Barty and defending US Open champion Naomi Osaka are this year’s US Open women’s favorites. Earlier this year, Osaka made headlines when he said he did not intend to fulfill his media obligations and eventually withdrew from the French Open. Osaka withdrew from Wimbledon before returning to the boiler light and participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

While a few of the sport’s biggest stars are out of the US Open, there will still be a lot of exciting activity on the field in the coming weeks.
