Good, bad and ugly from the Packers ’pre-season loss to the Bills

Young attackers: Versatile rookie Royce Newman started for the second consecutive week with the right guard. He did not disappoint. Newman was a threat in the running game and did not allow any pressure from the quarterback. It looks like Newman is a team starter with a real guard in week 1 against the Saints. Left-handed Yosh Nijman and left-guard Jon Runyan were also impressive in the running game. Both will play an important role at the start of the season.

Jordan’s love of gaming: Love was money when he used play activities, which was best accentuated by the proactive throw he made for Malik Taylor on the way out with 5:30 left in the first quarter. The packers pretended to be AJ Dillon and before Taylor could even reach the top of his route, Love threw a perfectly timed feed to the sideline to the end of 15 yards and down first. Play-action is the cornerstone of coach Matt LaFleur’s attack, and Love seems to master it well.

Against the starting corner players of Malik Taylor Bills: He was the team’s lead recipient for the second consecutive week (69 yards). His best game was a controversial catch on the sidelines in free play after Bills jumped away. He also defeated Tre’Davious White. Taylor has had the best preseason of all Packers receivers, and has gotten 14 catches at 185 yards in three games.

Jack Heflin’s effort: Packers seem to find a diamond in the rough rookie-free office every year. This year’s sketched free agent gem seems to be the line of defense for Jack Heflin, who has now had three strong performances during the pre-season. In each play, his efforts are reflected. His engine runs hot and is visible on the tape, which will no doubt impress the Green Bay coach. On Saturday, he had an impressive defeat in battle in a game where he shot through the battle line to get down to the Bills runner in the backfield. Heflin ended the preseason with six defensive pressures and four hits, leading the entire defense. It is more likely than not that Heflin will play relevant pieces for the Packers this season.

Young assemblers:Isaiah McDuffie, De’Jon Harris and Ray Wilborn had a good performance and were among PFF’s three most respected defenders against Bills. McDuffie was sent to the flash on seven different occasions and delivered four assists and a sack. He also led the team in fights (nine) and clicks (68). McDuffs should act during the regular season and the special team regular season.
