CHANDIGARH: Local boy Ankit Kaushik continued his brilliant run with a racket and elevated his second half of the 26th All India JP Atray Memorial Cricket tournament to the Trident Cup to lead the CAG in Delhi with six wins over the Delhi Capitals Development Squad (DCDS) at Sector-16 Stadium here on Sunday.
The ducks, who had crushed 63 in their first match against UTCA, smoked an unbeaten 82 of 90 balls with seven brilliant limits to beat his party to a new victory. He played the perfect second violin for CAG, Delhi skipper and centurion Arpit Vasavada, whose 106 out of 116 balls, with nine boundaries, laid the groundwork for the team’s successful 275 hunt.
Previously, thanks to Kedha Devdhar (34) and Rajesh Sharma (26), the choice of the DCDS bat was a promising 65-round. Vaibhavi’s tone in vain
In the second match of the day, a catastrophic start cost the DDCA dearly as they went to Delhi for the Ranstar Cricket Club on seven fairways at IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohal.
In the victory throw, the DDCA immediately looked down the barrel, reading their scorecard 1: 2 / 1.5, before centenary Vaibhav Khandpal and Khitij Sharma (38) came together to combine a 102-run partnership on the third fairway to stabilize things.
With the gears dropping at regular intervals, Vaibhav held on to the other end, lifting 110 off 120 balls in the process, including 9 limits and six, before Sagar, who replaced Priyanshu Vijya Ram, caught him with team points 179 and 7. DDCA innings folded soon after, when they were wound to 196 to 49.
In Ranstar CC, Priyanshu (3 33), Harshit Kaushik (3 49) and Subodh Bhatti (2 22) were goals.
In response, Ranstar CC hunted for a goal 34.5 overtime, thanks to Pardeep Malik’s 66 out of 75 balls and Keshav Patelin’s 76 out of 95 balls. For the DDCA, Tejas (2,444) was the only successful bowler.
RBI, Mumbai kill Chhattisgarh
In the third match played at Maharaja Yadwindra Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, RBI Mumbai knocked out Chattisgarh Cricket Sanghi in 71 runs.
To hit the bat, the RBI rode skipper Dhruv Shorey’s powerful 89 off 103 balls, including 7 limits and 3 six, and Jyot Chahya 38 off 55 balls, 2 limits and 1 six, to get a healthy 275 for 7 50. The duo participated in an 113-lead partnership for the fourth lane.
In response, Chhattisgarh was bundled to 204 in 43.5 overs, thanks to four throws by Amit Mishra and Sayan Mandal. Chhattisgarh’s side was very involved in the game, courtesy of half a century from Ajay Mandal (69 out of 66 balls, 6 limits and 3 six) and Shubham Aggarwal (53 not out of 78 balls, 2 limits and 1 six), but the remaining bats were unable to handle Mishra and Mandali rotation.
