Four singles in Gator, three pairs deserve seats in the pre-ITA season

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The Florida Gators women’s tennis team achieved four doubles rankings and added three doubles pairs to ITA’s pre-season rankings, as the organization announced Tuesday afternoon. Gators counts the SEC’s top ranked single players by four.

Postgraduate student McCartney Kessler leads the way for Gators when he has entered number 4 in the singles rankings. The Calhoun, Georgia native collected All-American honors singles and doubles after putting together an impressive 18-3 single record and an 11-6 double match record. At the conference, he went 10-1 to receive the First-Team All-SEC awards. Kessler won her first-round match at the NCAA Doubles Championship against Vanessa Wong of Washington and also claimed a double victory at the NCAA Doubles Championships with her teammate. Marlee Zein compared to Raven Neely and Louisville’s Tatiana Simova to reach the semifinals.

Carly Briggs, a junior transfer from Tennessee, is next in the rankings when it comes in 41st. In Tennessee, he collected 17 singles wins during the season and ended the season in 62nd place in the NCAA Doubles Championship, winning 90th Rose Johanson of Virginia to advance to the second round.

Zein claimed his place in 64th place, and like Briggs, he also earned a place in the ITA All-American Championships. He won 10 singles last year, mainly in court 2, and was the second-team All-SEC pick when he was 5-3 in the conference. Zein, along with Kessler, advanced to 16 NCAA doubles championships after winning 13th place finishers Neely and Simovan of Louisville.

The second effect was related to singles Emma Shelton sits at number 84. The younger moved from South Carolina, where he won 13 individual matches, mainly at Court 3. In doubles, he played most of the games in No. 2 and collected 10 wins during the season.

On the Double side, Kessler and Shelton hold Florida’s highest ranking when they sign up to number 23. Zein and freshman Alicia dudeney followed by number 39, while Briggs and the freshman Bente Spee Dudeney has won a couple of double championships on the ITF track, including the LTU 18U doubles championship last year. Spee is a five-time junior champion who has won three single titles (U12, U14, U18) and two doubles titles (U12, U18).
