LIHU’E – The state health ministry’s Kaua’i District Health Unit announced 37 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.

The Saturday cases are three visitors and 34 residents; 19 are children and 18 are adults.

Three of the cases are linked to displacement on the continent. The remaining 34 cases are taken for granted in the community. Thirty-two of the infections acquired in the community are close contacts of previously reported cases or are linked to an active cluster. The other two cases acquired in the community could not be reached after repeated attempts.

Active cases are directed to isolation, and close contacts are identified, tests offered and directed to quarantine. Investigations are ongoing.

Saturday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 316, with five hospitalized, and 1,842 cumulative cases.
