Havant’s mother left to fight for her life after the Covid vaccine to let her daughter get vaccinated

A mom who left to fight for her life after a shocking allergic reaction to the Covid vaccine still plans to let her daughter get the vaccine.

Kirsty Hext, mother of one, 26, Havant was rushed to hospital when she began to have difficulty breathing within minutes of receiving the second dose of Pfizer vaccine.

It turned out that she had has suffered from an unknown severe allergy to any of its ingredients and has since suffered at least 14 anaphylactic shock, she said.

Three million children aged 12 to 15 will be able to receive their first injection of coronavirus vaccine from next week.

Despite her shocking, life-threatening reaction, Kirsty has now said she supports her two-year-old daughter Harper-Rose who was vaccinated when she was eligible.

And she would encourage other parents to take the same stance.

Senior care assistant Kirsty said, “I think the vaccine helps people even after what I’ve been through, which is why I let Harper-Rose get the vaccine.

“As a parent, you just want to protect your child.

“I still feel pretty nervous after what happened to me, but obviously there are side effects to everything, right?

“I could give her paracetamol or she could go for her normal injections and she could have side effects.

“If this can potentially help her become poor, or if she has Covid-19 and it prevents her from passing it on to someone else, then why should I prevent her from having it?”

Although she has never had an allergic reaction before in her life, Kirsty fought for her life in intensive care after struggling to breathe minutes after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine on April 28.

Her lips and tongue were swelling to the point of bleeding, and she ended up having two seizures when the shocks left her brain starved of oxygen.

The young mother feared that she would never see her two-year-old daughter, Harper-Rose, again after her admission to intensive care.

Kirsty said: “The anaphylactic shock was terrifying – my face and airways started to swell and I couldn’t breathe properly – and each one looked scarier than the last.

“After a few shocks that even caused me seizures, I honestly thought I was going to die in intensive care and would never see my two year old daughter again.

“I really believed my body was giving up – I thought I was going to die in the hospital and I would never see my daughter grow up.

“I even had a tearful phone call to my sister where I asked her ‘if I don’t wake up, can you raise my daughter?’

“I couldn’t believe it when doctors first said my condition was due to being allergic to the Pfizer vaccine – I didn’t even know it was possible, but it almost killed me .

“Even after so many shocks now, it’s very scary not knowing when the next one might come – and I can’t wait for it to end.”

The UK’s chief medical officers have now recommended just one Pfizer for all children aged 12 to 15.

While many parents have opposed giving the vaccine to their children, Kirsty supports her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Harper-Rose, who is receiving the vaccine.

She said: “It took a little while for Harper-Rose to get the shot. He’s your kid – it’s a little different when he’s an adult and can make his own decisions.

“With a lot of side effects and what happened to other people, I took some time to think about it.

“I had some concerns from what I went through, but I think that’s normal, isn’t it? Everything can potentially have a side effect.

“Even after everything I’ve been through, I still think everyone should get their vaccine. Just because I had a bad reaction doesn’t mean everyone will – vaccinations save lives. .

“It was a really terrifying experience – one that I never thought possible – but it’s still so important that people get their punches.

“Even though I have almost died several times since my vaccination, I work in the healthcare sector myself and I know how important it is.

“I want people to remember that reactions like mine are very rare – and just because I had a bad reaction doesn’t mean everyone will too.”
