Australian Captain Tim Paine is very confident that he will be suitable for the first ash test despite invasive neck surgery. The bulging plate had caused the walker pain in his neck and left hand, leading to a Pressure Surgery this week.
Surgeons had to cut a hole in the throat to fix the problem. The 36-year-old is resting for two weeks before starting rehabilitation to make sure he is fit to lead Australia against England on Gabban on 8 December.
The pressure admits to being quite sore, but is optimistic about the future of the game after talking to other athletes who have had similar cuts. Former NRL and Wallabies star Matt Rogers and recently retired Melbourne AFL captain Nathan Jones took office within eight weeks.
It was a kind of access to that touch and transition phase where I either don’t get it done and take the risk of Id being right through the ashes, or fix it now, Paine told SEN. I’m pretty happy with the decision after the surgeon had been there.
December 8th is the first test, and I’m pretty sure I’m right before that. I hope I get the Tassielle Shield game before that and hopefully the victory of the third winning Ashes would be something really special.
I want to continue playing Tasmania after my international career. Its correction and absence was the right decision in the long run. I had a lot of skeptics throughout my career, so it’s something I’m used to; No worries, I use it as motivation to come out.
England have expressed serious concern about the conditions in which the team will have to live during the ashes, raising doubts about the planned progress of the series. But Paine believes the conditions are nowhere near as bad as what tourists fear.
The most important thing with the English guys is around the quarantine protocols, but they didn’t ask them to do anything we don’t, Paine said. I think if we get them here, they will understand that the conditions at the Australian Covid Centers are pretty good and there is no need to worry about them.
