Tasmanian Tigers abandon Queensland cricket after COVID-19

Cricket Tasmania has decided to pull the SheffieldShield and one-day teams out of Queensland following the COVID-19 epidemic in the Northeast.

Queensland Health announced Tuesday morning that there are four new cases of COVID-19 in the Community, and the links between the cases and the possible subsequent spread of the virus are still being investigated.

Tasmania was scheduled to take on Queensland in a four-day Sheffield Shield match scheduled to begin on Wednesday, but has decided to evacuate the state due to the uncertainty of the coronavirus epidemic.

The Tigers were also scheduled to take on the Bulls in a one-day match on Sunday, October 3rd.

“Cricket Tasmania has made the decision to return the Tasmanian Tigers Marsh Sheffield Shield and one-day troops to Tasmania today,” Cricket Tasmania said in a statement.

– This is not a light decision.

“While the situation in Queensland has not prevented the match from starting today, the approach is cautious and thoughtful, and we strongly believe we will be better off getting players and staff home as we build a better understanding of the current situation.

“We look forward to the Queensland Bulls playing at the first opportunity. We thank Queensland Cricketand Cricket Australia for their understanding and flexibility in postponing this match, and we hope that this precautionary measure has not been required afterwards.”

The COVID epidemic in Queensland is also threatening to host the NRL Grand Final on Sunday, which will be played at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
