US Open champion Emma Radocano will return to the round of tennis at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells next week.

Radocano has been considering where she will make her debut since her stunning US Open victory, and news came on Tuesday night that the 18-year-old Briton has been given a wildcard at the prestigious event.

The California Championships, which begins next Wednesday and is one of the WTA’s biggest tournaments, usually takes place in March but has been postponed due to the pandemic.

Although Raducanu’s 22nd rating is comfortably high enough to secure entry into all the major events, the interval is several weeks before the start of each tournament, meaning she needs a wildcard to avoid having to qualify.

Raducanu will be one of the stars of attractions in the California desert and there has to be a lot of focus on how she performs after sweeping everything in front of her at Flushing Meadows.

The teen said last week that she will not be seeking to qualify for the WTA Finals at the end of the season but has also entered the Kremlin Cup in Moscow and the Transylvania Open in Romania later in October.

Radocano, who attended the James Bond premiere of No Time To Die on Tuesday, is ranked 14th in the race to make it to the event in Guadalajara, and needs to make up nearly 400 points to reach the top eight.
