The great Southern table tennis ended its winter competition with Port Elliot 3, which took home the 2021 pennant.
The competition, which consisted of four pages in Pt Elliot and two in Inman Valley, lasted 13 weeks and saw the small premiere of Pt Elliot 2, led by Kevin Pearce and Chris Gorman Senior, followed by Pt Elliot 3, including Chris Gorman Junior and Richard Adler.
Pt Elliot 1 and Inman 2 rounded out the final fourth bottom in the semi-finals.
Pt Elliot 3 won the grand final with a nice win over Pt Elliot 1, while Inman 2 caused a major boiler that beat the small prime ministers Pt Elliot 2 to advance to the grand final.
Inman Valley 2 finished second and the team includes Steve, Mark, Marc, Darren, Brett.
The grand final was of a high standard, with Mark Heinrich of Inman winning a hard five-match Richard Adler.
In tonight’s match, Pt Elliot’s Tyrone Gorman highlighted Inman Darren Lush in a five-game thriller that toured the match for the home team.
Pt Elliot continued his victory in the duel with Brenton Osborne and Adler as well as Andrew Gordon and Tyrone.
In the second round of singles, Inman’s Marc Stringer won four matches against Osborne, while Adler beat Inman’s Brett Stringer in four, making it difficult for the guests.
For the final round of doubles, Inman had to win all the matches to have hope, but it wasn’t that Chris Junior and Tyron’s victory over Lush and Steve Wynniatt secured the prime minister when Pt Elliot 3 won night 9-7.
The final dinner of the season was held with prizes given to the winning and runners-up teams as well as the most successful player in each of the five ranking rows.
These were: Line 5 – Mark Heinrich – Inman Valley 2, Line 4 – Flora Huang – Pt Elliot / Inman Valley, Line 3 – Tyrone Gorman – Pt Elliot 3, Line 2 – Reece Kleinig – Pt Elliot 1, Line 1 – Chris Gorman Junior – Pt Elliot 3.
Chris Horwood received the Tony Collier Eternal Award for his awards in table tennis over the past 12 months.
