Wallace is the first black to win the Cup since 1963, when NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Wendell Scott led the race.
Just after the race, Wallace thanked his team and owners, sports legend Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin for the opportunity.
“It’s pretty appropriate that it comes here to Talladega,” he said.
“It was a loop,” Wallace said. “Whether tied in 2019 or whatever, it was a loop. So, it wasn’t aimed at me, but someone tied a loop. That’s what I say.”
Wallace asked Monday what it meant to become a black driver who won the Cup series.
“I never think about those things, and when you, when you say it around, honestly, it brings a lot of emotion, a lot of joy to my family, my fans, my friends. It’s damn cool.”
This was Wallace’s first year at 23XI Racing. Profit is also Jordan’s first owner.
