Cowboys Wrap Up Play at the ITA All-American Championships

Tulsa, Okla. – Six members of the Oklahoma State men’s tennis team played at the ITA All-American Championships this week at the Michael Case Tennis Center.

Six members of the head coach Dustin TaylorThe team competed in the pre-selection rounds with the senior Luke Hammond, junior Maxim Verboven, as well as a sophomore Leighton Allen and Freshmen Nic Pesoli, Francisco Pini and Sammr Raina everyone attends the event.

On Saturday, OSU began qualifying at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater. Pini started strongly for Pokes, winning a 6-4, 6-4 straight draw against Charles Morkel. Pesoli followed soon after and defeated Maxime Mareschai-Ha 6-4, 6-2. Due to the opponent’s withdrawal, Hammond automatically advanced to the second round.

In the single player, the remaining cowboys fell from the main draw in fierce battles.

Back and forth through the match, Verboven dropped his match to Nam Pham 6-4, 6-1. Allen won the first set, but lost in the handicap to Evzen Hollis 6-2, 4-6, 4-10. Raina fell to Dhruv Sunish 6-1, 6-2.

Pini started the second round of OSU and beat Damian Rodriguez 4-6, 6-2 [10-8].

In his second round match, Hammond scored a goal with Svistoslav Gulin. Hammond dropped the first set 2-6, but fought back to get the second 7-6 (2) before the battle draw went to Gulin.

On Sunday, Pini advanced to the qualifying round, where he dropped straight to Thoms Brown 6-2, 6-3.

Pini received Cleeve Harper in a consolation action where he fell in straight straight 6-3, 6-2.

Monday, Tyler Zink and Luke Hammond debuted in a duel. The duo won 7-6 (2), 7-6 (1) Marques Da Silva and Deji Thomas-Smith.

In the second round, the duo responded with Ivalio Keremedchiev and Jesper Klov-Nilsson. Back and forth after the fight, Zink and Hammond fell 6-2, 7-6 (1).

Zink will start the singles Main Draw on Wednesday, October 6th.
