Four first-place swims will give wolverine leaders after the first day at the SMU Classic

Michigan leads the SMU Classic after the first day of competition with 168 points.
Wolverines won four races and placed in the top three in the other four.
UM won 400 mixed and 800 freestyle posts.
Patrick Callan won the 200-yard freestyle and Will Chan won the 100-yard breaststroke.

DALLAS, Texas -The University of Michigan Men’s Swimming and Diving Team launched the campaign with a strong performance on 2021-22 on the first night of the SMU Classic on Friday (October 8) at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center. The Wolverines (168 points) lead Louisville (161) by seven points towards the final day of the race.

Corn and Blue started the meeting in first place in the 400-yard mixed release when Wyatt Davis, Will Chan, Gal Groumi and Cam Shell touched the wall at 3: 07.26 to get to Louisville for half a second.

Michigan took second place in last night of the evening, an 800-yard freestyle post, thank you Jake Mitchell, Groumi, Davis and Patrick Callan. The quartet left the rest of the field in the dust by touching wall 6: 19.01, seven seconds ahead of second place.

Callan won the 200-yard freestyle with blisters 1: 34.47, while Chan took the 100-yard breaststroke 52.14.

The other four Ahmats swam to the top three when Groumi finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (46.08) and Davis touched the wall at 46.80 and took second in the 100-yard backstroke. Jared Daigle placed third in the 400-yard IM (3: 47.79), and Peel finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (19.92).

Wolverines will return to the pool on Saturday (October 9) on the second day of the SMU Classic, which begins at 11 a.m. CDT, and the meeting will be broadcast live on SMU’s PonyUp TV. Michigan will also host Oakland on Saturday at noon in a double meeting at Canham Natatorium.
