Romelu Lukaku has left the Belgian team due to “muscle fatigue”, says head coach Roberto Martinez.
Chelsea striker Lukaku leaves United Nations third-place playoff against Italy in Turin on Sunday, live Sky Sports.
The 28-year-old scored Belgium’s second goal and played 90 minutes in the perfect 3-2 semi-final in France.
Chelsea, who lead the Premier League table after seven opening matches, will be the next action in Brentford on 16 October. Sky Sports.
Lukaku has originally returned to Belgium and not to take care of his club side.
“It’s an overload. He didn’t feel 100% playing tomorrow. It’s timid in his tissues,” Martinez said of the Belgian record scorer at a news conference on Saturday.
“Every decision made involves both medical departments together for the best of the player.”
Lukaku returned to Chelsea in the summer to get the club’s record of £ 97.5 million from Inter Milan and has since scored four goals in nine matches in all of Thomas Tuchel’s team competitions.
