Dehradun: Gurugram police may soon invite some Uttarakhand Cricket Association (CAU) officials to join an investigation into a gang that cheated budding players with excuses to secure them a place on state teams, sources told TOI.
This is based on data released by Kulbeer Rawat, coach of the Cricket Academy in Dehradun, who was caught earlier this week. Rawat previously worked with Secure Corporate Management (SCM), which is accused of telling players that they have worked with cricket bodies, and reassured them of their choice in state cricket groups in exchange for money.
Gurugram police had previously said they were investigating links between the CAU and Rawat. Rawat has mentioned the names of some CAU officials, but we will only issue an invitation when we gather significant evidence against an association official. We will only notify someone when we are very sure about something, said investigating officer and under-inspector Gurgaon police Umesh Kumar.
He added: After Rawat, another coach participating in the gang has been abducted from Himachal Pradesh. Our probe has revealed that SCM owner Ashutosh Bora has transferred money to his account.
At the same time, the CAU has issued a statement stating that the selection of all teams will be carried out impartially.
The CAU also claimed that its officials had no contact with the gang under the lens.
