What were the main factors to blame for the Carolina Panthers’ sad home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5?
After a fantastic start to the 2021 season in the first three weeks, the Carolina Panthers officially collapsed on earth with back-to-back losses to opposition NFC East. Their loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 was a case where one team was much better than the other, but what happened in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was far more concerning.
After regaining the advantage at half-time, a complete surrender after the break gave the Eagles the opportunity they needed – which they took full advantage of as they moved forward down the home stretch and the Panthers n were unable to get back into the match.
In case anyone has any doubts, Carolina is a long way from claiming a playoff berth, even though they lacked key personnel including Shaq Thompson and Christian McCaffrey.
We can find excuses for Matt Rhule’s men, but it just wasn’t enough. Here are four major factors that led to the Panthers’ dismal defeat in Week 5.
Factor # 1

Poor protection of Carolina Panthers IOL passes
We’re not going to spend a lot of time on this because it’s beyond a joke now. Once again, the Panthers’ inside offensive line collapsed under the pressure, dragging three more sacks to Sam Darnold and countless pushes for good measure.
It is unbearable.
And unless big improvements or staff changes are made, it will only get worse. The Minnesota Vikings are the next to come and there’s no denying that Danielle Hunter, Dalvin Tomlinson and Sheldon Richardson will be more than looking forward to this particular game.
It all starts at the top. Everyone knew that this offensive line was going to struggle and those in power did nothing to change course.
