A 3.6-magnitude earthquake triggered a tremor early Sunday in parts of southern California.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which initially had a magnitude of 3.9, was near the Maywood area of south Los Angeles, about eight miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. The size was later reduced to 3.6.
Weak to moderate shaking was reported around 7 a.m. in the vicinity, San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, and other locations.
The USGS vibration reports page received more than 2,200 responses early Sunday. Some residents reported hearing a distant roar before the shaking.
“It was a little tense at first. I heard a distinct buzzing, a little shaking, then upgraded to full-range shaking,” said Dennis Verdez, who lives near the epicenter.
The depth of the earthquake was about 10 miles.
How you feel in a small earthquake like this morning depends on how close you are to it. Since it’s 10 miles away, everyone is at least 10 miles away from it. The closer you get, the more intense the movement. You can submit a report to iPad at https://t.co/7NeQ3IW7dm
