ATLANTA (ELC) – Top-ranked Oklahoma defeated Pepperdine Waves in 1st place 3-1-1 in Tuesday’s semifinals of the East Lake Cup on the day the wind howled around the East Lake Golf Cub. It’s about the Bedlam East Lake Cup championship on Wednesday as the No. 1 OU will face Oklahoma State in the 2nd championship game for the second time this month.

“There’s going to be a tough match,” head coach Ryan Hybl said. “Honestly, it doesn’t matter the day who is mated because a good golf wins.”

Pepperdinen went early 1-0 lead, Stephen Campbell Jr. and Jaxon Dowell earned the first two Sooner points within minutes of each other. Campbell won the 3 & 1 Pepperdine All-American ace from William Mouw and Dowell was never left behind winning 4 & 2 against Joey Vrzich.

“I felt like I was hitting the ball off the brick very well, really holding it in place for at least the entire front nine,” Campbell said. “The back nine was a bit Squirrel, but kind of I realized it and hit the ball really well.”

Freshman Drew Goodman notch in the anchor match of the anchorage point. Goodman won 4 & 3 with the iconic par-3 15th hole.

“I feel like I played really, really well today,” Goodman said. “I really didn’t make too many mistakes. I feel like I’m losing holes, I had to win. I didn’t give up anything that felt really good.”

Chris Gotterup, Monday’s second medalist, lost a tough 1-down loss in the day’s opening game. Logan McCallister’s match was exactly in the last hole when Goodman grabbed his point.

Oklahoma will face Oklahoma State, which beat Arizona State 3-1-1 in the second semifinal. The Sooners and Cowboys last met two weeks ago in the Big 12 Match Play third place match. The OU convincingly won 5-1 for bronze.

Championship matches will begin at 11.55 CT. Direct points are available through Golfstat and a live broadcast of the Golf Channel is scheduled from 2pm to 5pm CT
