President Biden on Wednesday seemed to blame anyone but himself for major Democratic setbacks in Tuesday’s elections.
It mentions everything from former President Donald Trump to “very conservative people who come out” in the polls to Americans who are “upset and unsure” about COVID-19 and rising prices-rather than disapproving of his political agenda – Biden doubled, calling on Congress to quickly pass his $ 1.75 trillion spending bill to regain support.
In Virginia, Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe by more than 2 percentage points, despite Biden winning the state last year by 10 points. The defeat came after Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Barack Obama all came to rallies in Virginia for McAuliffe.

“People are angry and unsure about a lot of things, from COVID to school to jobs to a whole range of things and the cost of a gallon of gasoline,” Biden told reporters on Wednesday. in the afternoon. “And if I can pass and sign into law my Build Back Better initiative, I’m in a position where you’ll see many of those things being quickly and rapidly improved.”
Republicans and centrist Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WVa.) Drew the opposition’s conclusion from the GOP’s resurgence, saying inflation was largely to blame for voter dissatisfaction and Congress should not rush to pass the social and environmental measure Biden’s bill.
Republicans have widely described the elections as a referendum on Biden’s falling popularity.
But Biden, who waited nearly a full day to address the election result, called on Democrats to pass a $ 1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill and a $ 1.75 trillion social safety net and environmental package.

“I know people want us to do things. They want us to end things. And that’s why I keep pushing hard for the Democratic Party to go ahead and pass my infrastructure bill and my Build Back Better bill, ”he said.
Trump appears to be on Biden’s mind – despite his predecessor not visiting Virginia or New Jersey to get stuck with Republican candidates.
“I’m not sure I can change the number of very conservative people who come out of the red districts as Trump voters,” Biden said of the Democratic defeat in Virginia.
Biden mentioned Trump 24 times last week in a 17 -minute speech for McAuliffe in northern Virginia. In a statement after the election, Trump said Democrats discredited the election by focusing too much on him.

At one point, Biden even joked about Trump without being prompted when a reporter’s phone rang on Wednesday.
“If it’s Trump, tell him I’m busy,” the president snapped.
Asked if he made a mistake in focusing on Trump, Biden said, “the reason I mentioned Trump … is because the issues he supports affect their lives every day and it negatively impacts their lives.”
Harris also brushed off poor results for Democrats, telling reporters during a visit to Capitol Hill on Wednesday that “we also have great wins” – citing the election of Democrat Eric Adams as mayor of New York. York and the victory of Democrat Shontel Brown in a veiled Democratic House special election. Neither race is considered competitive.
