Why Kiwis are the best cricket team in the world

In contrast, Australia has won only five of its last 14 test series, four of which have been lost at home. Last summer’s failure against 1-2 India cost Australia a place in the World Cup final.

New Zealand has good players, distinctive with Williamson, but they are not as good as half of the other test countries.

Walking in the ICC player rankings shows that they have only one player in the top ten of the Twenty20 international strokes, Devon Conway (7th) and bowling, Tim Southee (9th).

In one-day international matches, Ross Taylor (4th) and Williamson (9th) are both among the top 10 bats, while Trent Boult is the world’s leading ODI bowler, Matt Henry in sixth.

Williamson is second behind Henry Nicholls in the test punch series after England captain Joe Root, while in bowling Southee is third and tireless Neil Wagner fifth.

The most significant part of New Zealand’s success is that it comes from a country of only five million people. That is the population of Melbourne or Sydney. Not Victoria, which is 6.7 meters, or NSW 8.2 meters.

NSW currently has six players on the test team, but two of them, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon, are from NSW, so Steve Smith, David Warner, Pat Cummins and Mitch Starc would leave to build the international side. Good start, Sean Abbott close to the test site, but the depth should be worrying about the Blues batting situation.

And trying to build an international team with Melbourne cricket players would be embarrassing. Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch are currently in the World Cup, but Finch is from Colac’s western region, so he’s not eligible.

Victoria’s most successful Sheffield Shield bats recently are Marcus Harris from Western Australia and Nic Maddinson from NSW. There are no Victorian descendants in the test group.

Victoria can hardly blame the AFL or stealing all the talented athletes in the state. It would be like New Zealand cricket blaming rugby for sweeping all sports gifts in a country where the All Blacks are demigods.

Although Kiwi cricket has been supplemented by an occasional foreign player, only South African Devon Conway developed his game on the current team outside of New Zealand.

This is different from England, which had four foreign players in the top five of the team that won their first ICC trophy, the 2010 Twenty20 World Cup. The Irishman Eoin Morgan who was on that team is the current England whiteball captain.

After leaving their early favorites India and now England out of the tournament, New Zealand needs to imagine its potential.
