Small town in North Dakota is expanding into the $ 2.5 trillion cryptocurrency world by setting up a crypto ATM as an airport. Both travelers and non-passengers will have access to the machine to sell or buy over 40 cryptocurrencies. “This is an ambitious step in introducing and engaging the public in cryptocurrency while proactively playing a role in building the digital ecosystem,” said Hercules Cummings, Chief Financial Officer from the Town of Williston, in a statement. The move builds on the city’s earlier work on cryptocurrency adoption, whose market capitalization recently surpassed $ 3 trillion for the first time. Williston began accepting cryptocurrencies like bitcoin as a payment method for utility bills in May, according to a Cointelegraph report. Cummings told the outlet that Williston was the first municipality in North Dakota and the third in the country to offer such a service. This decision was made in partnership with BitPay, a crypto payment company.

Cummings said the airport’s so-called digital currency machine can serve people who prefer not to use their bank or debit cards or who don’t have access to traditional financial services. Passengers with tickets and non-travelers will have access to the machine as it will be placed in front of a secure area. People can also use the machine to withdraw money from their digital wallets.

The airport’s ATM project is working with crypto service provider Coin Cloud, the statement said.
