BURTON The Lapeer Lightning hockey co-op, made up of athletes from Lapeer, LakeVille and North Branch, didn’t get on the right foot for seasons, but lost to a 10-2 loss to Grand Blanc (co-selection with Brown City). season opening at Crystal Fieldhouse on Wednesday.

Liam Tibor put Lightning on the board in the opening frame, but Grand Blanc grabbed the 2-1 lead by the end of the period. Liam Nass scored from Lightning’s second goal.

We played hard for three episodes; the scores did not reflect our efforts, said first-year Lightning coach Lance McLean. Unfortunately, that’s how it sometimes goes. We will learn from it and move on. We have some areas in our game that we need to clean up and hopefully get players back to our next game. I’m proud of every player on our team because they didn’t resign. We have a lot of positive things we can take out of this game and build on.

Lightning was in Dexter on Saturday after the deadlines set for the press and will return to the battle against Tawas 3. December after the weekend break of Thanksgiving.
