Warriors Findings: Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole Fuel Victory vs. Raptors

SAN FRANCISCO – In their first game at Chase Center after four games, the Warriors continued where they left off, winning the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night 119-104.

Steph Curry struggled and scored just 12 points, but you would never have guessed it based on how dominant the Warriors were all night and how many three-point points they hit (22).

And it wasn’t about their depth – Chris Chiozza (11 points) and Otto Porter Jr. (15) were the only players on the bench to score their double-digit goals – but more about the other starters taking the lead.

Wiggins Mr. Consistentina 2.0

Last season, I constantly called Andrew Wiggins Mr. Consistent because every night he could count on him getting 15-20 points.

Well, he’s been at the same consistent level this season, but he’s raised it in the last seven games. He has taken more responsibility for scoring. Against the Raptors, he scored 32 points in a 12/20 shot, seven rebounds, three assists and one block.

Wiggins has been playing more aggressively and tenaciously since the Minnesota game, attacking the edge as much as possible instead of contenting himself with jumping shots.

Of course, Wiggins can still shoot the ball. He went 6 against 8 deep against the Raptors. But he doesn’t force it – his shots hit him on Sunday.

Jordan Poole as the most advanced player?

He’s sure to defend it early in the season – as much as Curry does for the MVP.

Sure, Pool has had a few ups and downs, but there have been many more ups lately. On Sunday, he scored 33 points in a 10/13 goal. This was his second consecutive game in which he scored at least 30 goals, for the first time in his career.

While Poole has shown more of his ability to attack the rim – which is one of his best, deadliest skills – Sunday’s game was a testament to his shooting.

Poole dropped her career record by eight three points.

Looney plays her role

Kevon Looney has started his season strongly through the Warriors ’first 17 games, and Sunday’s game was no exception.

Looney scored seven points in 26 minutes, 10 rebounds, four assists, two assists and two fights, a good net rating plus-25 – a line of statistics that perfectly sums up the role of the actor.

As Looney is the only real center currently available to the Warriors, he has had to bear the burden of fighting the opponents big. He has also helped make Warriors the second-best record team in the league (average 47.6 per game).

Sunday’s 10 rebounds from Looney was his fourth double-digit rebound game this season and second in a row.

Looney left the game in the third quarter, and after returning to the bench he never returned to the game. But his early presence gave Golden State a tone.
