Doctors warn of nocturnal toilet habits that could be a sign of ‘aggressive’ cancer

Needing to go to the bathroom at night could be a warning sign of cancer, medical experts have warned.

Nocturia, a state where you regularly wake up during the night to urinate, could be a sign of prostate cancer.

The disease can be caused by a growing tumor pushing against the urethra, Online mirror reports.

The NHS says, “Prostate cancer usually doesn’t cause any symptoms until the cancer is big enough to put pressure on the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the penis.

“Symptoms of prostate cancer may include the need to urinate more frequently, often at night.”

Prostate Cancer United Kingdom says if you notice changes in the way you urinate it’s more likely to be a sign of a very common non-cancerous problem called an enlarged prostate, but it’s always a good idea to have it checked for rule out cancer.

Prostate cancer is the second most common disease in men after skin cancer, but it can be difficult to detect due to the lack of obvious symptoms at an early stage.

Cancer is called “aggressive” because of its ability to spread quickly to lymph nodes and nearby organs if left untreated.

Prostate Cancer UK encourages anyone aged 50 or over, whose father or brother has had cancer, or who are black to speak to their GP.
