Donald Trump: Kyle Rittenhouse visited me after Kenosha’s acquittal

Former President Donald Trump said Kyle Rittenhouse visited his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida days after a jury in Wisconsin found the teen not guilty in cases related to the shootings that killed two people and injured a third during the riot in Kenosha last summer.

The former president, speaking with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, called the 18-year-old a “really nice young man” and said he visited his mother.

“He wanted to know if he could come over and say hello because he’s a fan,” Mr. Trump.

Mr. Rittenhouse was acquitted of intentional homicide and other charges after a jury ruled he acted in self-defense in the shooting and murder of Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and injured Gaige Grosskreutz, now is 27.

Mr. Rittenhouse traveled from his home in Illinois when he was 17 and joined armed civilians who said they wanted to protect Kenosha’s businesses from theft amid violent protests against Jacob Blake, a Black man shot and seriously wounded by officers who believed he was close. to stab them with a knife in a police call in August 2020. All three men were shot by Mr. Rittenhouse is White.

“He shouldn’t have experienced that,” Mr. Trump said after the visit on Monday. “That was wrong prosecution behavior, and it’s happening all over the United States right now with Democrats.”

President Biden said last week that the jury’s decision would “leave many Americans feeling angry and worried, including me,” but added that the jury’s decision must be recognized.

“I stand by what the jury has decided,” he told reporters. “The jury system works and we have to follow it.”

The Rittenhouse test was seen as a kind of inkblot test for the political divide in America.

Liberal voices said the fact that a teenager was tied to a high-powered gun and went to the streets in another state underscores the problem of gun violence and vigilantism.

Mr. Trump and his GOP allies said the teenager was a victim of overly enthusiastic prosecutors and mainstream media who quickly condemned him but not rioters who ruined businesses in the 2020 unrest.

The former president’s allies in Congress, including Reps. Paul Gosar of Arizona and Matt Gaetz of Florida, are battling to bring Mr. Rittenhouse as a Capitol Hill intern.

Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado chose a friendly fight with Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina who will hire Mr. Rittenhouse, though, it turned out to be an awkward turn.

“Madison Cawthorn, she said she was going to wrestle with me for this Kyle Rittenhouse internship. But Madison Cawthorn has some pretty big guns, and so I wanted to challenge her instead of a sprint,” Ms. Cawthorn said. Boebert at Newsmax. “Let’s make it fair.”
