Rolando Romero has officially been pulled from his Dec. 5 Showtime PPV main fight with Gervonta Davis in Los Angeles, a network spokesperson told The Athletic. Last week, a woman accused Romero of sexual assault on Twitter and said she filed a report with the Henderson, Nevada Police Department. HPD confirmed to The Athletic that a report had been filed but could not comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.

Romero posted a statement on Instagram on Monday afternoon.

While the allegations against me are totally false and I will prove it through the legal system, I agree that it is in the best interest of everyone involved that I do not attend the next pay-per-view event, a- he declared. After clearing my name, I will return to the ring as soon as possible.

Showtime is now on the hunt for a new opponent for Davis, one of boxing’s rising stars. The 26-year-old has yet to lose in 25 professional fights. He just picked up a TKO round 11 victory over Mario Barrios in June.
