Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai published a letter on November 2 on his confirmed social media account accusing a senior Chinese official of sexual exploitation. Then suddenly he disappeared. But it is not just people who get their name that disappear from the country. Human rights organization Safeguard Defenders estimates that more than 45,000 people have been in secret detention since President Xi Jinping came to power in 2013.
