Valve Says DayZ And Five Other Games Are Now Ready Against Cheats For Linux (And Steam Deck)

[ad_1]

Valve’s handheld Steam Deck won’t have exclusive games, but it’s slowly filling some holes in its Windows game library: Valve claims that Arma 3, DayZ, Unturned, and Planetside 2 now have BattlEye anti-cheat working when using the level of Proton compatibility for playing Windows games in Linux. This brings the total to six games, including Ark: Survival Evolved and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. (Those two already had support since November 8.)

This compatibility is important for Linux in general (and the Steam Deck handheld in particular) because they don’t run Windows games out of the box unless they work with Proton, and third-party anti-cheat software is known to interfere.

But for two of the most popular flavors of anti-cheat, this shouldn’t be a difficult fix! Epic Games said enabling Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) in Proton should take “just a few clicks” in the game developer portal. Valve said enabling BattlEye is as easy as sending an email.

Destiny 2 seems like an obvious Steam Deck candidate

Still, the developers responsible for many of the best anti-cheat games on Steam have either not wanted or been able to confirm whether they will actually send that email or make those clicks, including Bungie, Crytek, EA, Krafton, Microsoft, and Ubisoft.

While many of the best games run on Steam Deck, we currently don’t know if Apex Legends, Destiny 2, Halo or PUBG will be among them, for example. Furthermore, Epic would not commit to Fortnite, despite having enabled Easy Anti-Cheat for Proton in general. This isn’t a Steam title, however, and Epic sees Valve as a competitor.
