Devin Nunes has been named CEO of President Trump’s Tech and Media Company – The Hollywood Reporter

Former president Donald Trump has tapped Congressman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) To become CEO of his new media and tech company, the Trump Media & Technology Group.

Nunes will retire from Congress and begin as CEO of TMTG in January. He was one of Trump’s closest allies in Congress during his presidency, and a frequent critic of technology companies.

The acquisition of Nunes comes as Trump’s company faces an investigation from the SEC about its communication with the Digital World Acquisition Company, the SPAC which TMTG plans to merge to be made public.

However, SPAC also raised $ 1 billion in PIPE financing to go along with the nearly $ 300 million it has from its IPO, forming a huge war for Nunes as the company builds its first product, a service similar to Twitter called Truth Social. The company also plans to launch a subscription streaming service led by Scott St. John, a veteran producer of the game show.

Truth Social is based on being a social network that doesn’t discriminate or censor, but getting Nunes will definitely raise an eyebrow, given his aggressive approach to litigation. Nunes sued Twitter for parody accounts (Trump’s DOJ even subpoenaed Twitter on the accounts), and he sued several media outlets, including CNN, for libel.

Trump said, in a statement, that “Nunes understands that we must prevent the liberal media and Big Tech from destroying the freedoms that enhance America.”

“The time has come to reopen the Internet and allow the free flow of ideas and expression without censorship,” Nunes added in a statement Monday. “The United States of America has made the Internet dream a reality and it is an American company that is restoring that dream.”
