Players leave the field during a protest. Photo: YorkMixFans of York City stopped today’s game for several minutes by throwing dozens of tennis balls on the field.
Fans in the south auditorium waited until there was a break at the other end of the game and then threw balls into the penalty area.
A fan ran to the field before the judge drove him back into the crowd.
It was a protest demanding the resignation of the board – and club president Jason McGill. The songs are playing, including “We want Jason out” and “We want our club back.”
The referee interrupted the match and took the players out of the field during the protest. The referee then cleared the tennis balls from the field and the game continued.
It happened the day the new visitor record at LNER Community Stadium – 4,512 – came after the club dropped all £ 5 adult tickets and let the kids in for free.
