The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) will address both anti-doping and anti-corruption programs in sport as of January 1, 2022, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) said on Wednesday.
Previously, the ITF oversaw the anti-doping program for sports, but the Tennis Integrity Oversight Board unanimously confirmed that ITIA will take responsibility next year.
The tennis governing bodies (ATP, WTA, ITF and Grand Slam Board) established ITIA in January as a fully independent body to ensure the integrity of professional tennis worldwide.
ITIA was formerly known as the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU), which investigates corruption and match-fixing. In May, the body had hired Nicole Sapstead, a former British anti-doping director, as its anti-doping director.
“One fully integrated organization working on both anti-doping and corruption creates a great opportunity for sport,” said Jennie Price, Chairman of the Tennis Integrity Supervisory Board.
“Shared intelligence and shared resources make us more efficient, and most importantly, more efficient.”
The ITF also said the government had agreed on a $ 15.8 million budget for ITIA’s activities next year to cover both anti-corruption and anti-doping efforts.
