Donald Trump Jr. joked that Ghislaine Maxwell could die ‘next week or so’ despite father’s multiple trips on the Epstein plane

Donald Trump Jr. made a sad joke on Instagram about convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, even though his father’s name appeared several times at his trial.

“Ghislaine Maxwell, 1961 – next week or so,” Mr Trump captioned a photo of Maxwell, in the style of an “in memorial” image.

Maxwell was convicted Wednesday of multiple charges related to arranging underage girls for his ex-girlfriend, sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, to abuse. Epstein hanged himself in jail while awaiting his trial in 2019, but conspiracy theorists have insisted for years that his death was not a suicide.

Many such theorists believe – without evidence – that someone killed Epstein to silence him about his powerful friends who may have participated in his crimes. This appears to be the crux of Mr Trump’s attempt at humor, suggesting that Maxwell will encounter a similar fate.

“Too early?” asked the former president’s son, seemingly looking forward to accusations of bad taste. “Nah, it’s not too early for a pedos [sic] or their enablers. “

In his post, Mr Trump went so far as to mention that his father was friendly with Epstein and Maxwell, and was photographed several times with the two of them. During Maxwell’s trial, flight records from Epstein’s private plane showed that senior Donald Trump had been on the plane at least seven times.

The former president has not been accused or charged with any wrongdoing. But such a history puts his son in a difficult position where to criticize Maxwell, let alone joke about his death – or at least others might see it that way.

When Maxwell was first arrested in July 2020, former president Trump did not distance himself from him.

“I just wish her well, frankly,” Mr Trump said at a press conference at the White House. “I have met him many times in recent years, especially when I lived in Palm Beach and in Palm Beach they probably live. But I wish her well, whatever it is. “

Maxwell, 60, was convicted of sex trafficking of minors and four other related charges. If the maximum sentence is imposed for each count, he could be jailed for up to 65 years.
