Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi announced that they are preparing to send an official application to host the 2036 Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee is responsible for selecting the city where the Olympics will be held every four years.
As the hosts of the 2024, 2028, and 2032 editions have already decided (Paris, Los Angeles, and Brisbane), Egypt’s closest edition will be 2036.
According to Ashraf Sobhi, a formal application is currently being prepared to allow Egypt to try to host the 2036 edition.
“We are currently preparing a formal application for submission to the International Olympic Committee,” Sobhi said.
“Currently, we make sure all aspects are covered to keep our chances high.”
Egypt’s success would mean it is the first Arab and African country in history to host the Olympics.
