TEAMtalk understands that Arsenal is ready to offer Alexandre Lacazette a new two-year contract in a plan change as a result of his recent strong form.
The gunners are facing a few important months as they try to figure out their front line. Indeed, uncertainty looms over most of their options. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has continued to be suspended for disciplinary offenses.
In addition, Eddie Nketiah will be out of contract at the end of the season. French striker Lacazette is in the same situation as Nketiah, but his situation is more urgent given his recent turnaround.
In Aubameyang’s absence, the 30-year-old has risen with two goals and three assists from the last five Premier League matches. He is also team captain in three of these matches.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted in December that he and his company were having difficulty in negotiations with Lacazette and Nketiah.
Now, however, TEAMtalk understands that the formerly strong recent shape has led Arsenal to come up with a new plan for him.
They were previously willing to offer Lacazette only one year of extension because he was in his thirties. However, they are now ready to propose a two-year deal with the option to remain with the attacker.
Indeed, Arteta has been so impressed with Lacazette’s form that he has encouraged Arsenal’s hierarchy to start new discussions.
New Lacazette, Arsenal contract possible
TEAMtalk understands that negotiations between Lacazette’s agents and Arsenal were barely underway until December.
However, his recovery has led Gunners to come up with a new contract plan to reward him.
And Lacazette is open to a two-year contract because he enjoys playing under Arteta.
Still, his former club, Lyon, has shown interest in acquiring him again. In addition, Atletico Madrid, Inter, Juventus and Monaco are monitoring his situation.
As for Nketiah, his future is in great uncertainty as he approaches the end of his contract. Meanwhile, Arsenal wants to move Aubameyang either in January or in the summer transfer window.
